SNL Officially Adds Mikey Day, Alex Moffat, and Melissa Villaseñor for Season 42

Comedy News Saturday Night Live

After an off-season filled with surprising shake-ups, Saturday Night Live has officially announced its new cast members for season 42. Mikey Day, Alex Moffat and Melissa Villaseñor will be joining the cast this season. Day’s announcement was leaked last week, but all three additions were officially confirmed by the show today.

Day will join the show after three seasons in the writers’ room. Moffat was a member of the Second City troupe in Chicago that has always been an important influence on Saturday Night Live. Villaseñor, who has a knack for impressions, has been working in Los Angeles as a stand-up comic, actor and musician.

Per NBC News, Villaseñor will be SNL’s second-ever female cast member of Latina descent, an inclusive and important move for the show to make going into its forthcoming season. These cast members should help to fill out a cast that recently lost Taran Killam, Jay Pharoah and Jon Rudnitsky. The move also suggests that, although Pharoah was the resident Obama impersonator, there is no enormous rush to find someone else to fill the role. In the heat of this election season, there are plenty of impersonations to go around.
