Seth Meyers Takes a “Closer Look” at Climate Change

Following President Trump’s plans to declare a national emergency to get his border wall built, Late Night with Seth Meyers offered their take on what constitutes an actual emergency.

Meyers began his “A Closer Look” segment by calling out news outlets’ concerns that Trump’s plan would inspire a future Democratic president to declare a national emergency on climate change (or, as it’s more commonly referred to, a national emergency), the logic of which Meyers equated to, “I would give this homeless man a dollar, but you know he’s only going to use it to print out his resume and get a job.”

Meyers also mentioned Trump’s recent tweet implying that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal is the Democratic master plan to eliminate “all Planes, Cars, Cows, Oil, Gas & the Military.” But Meyers assures that the president’s rhetoric that AOC is here to steal your cows is simply “fake moos.”

Of course, Meyers would be remiss to leave Bernie Sanders out of the mix. When Sanders was prompted by CBS on Tuesday to respond to Howard Schultz’s threat to run as an Independent in an attempt to resist the Green New Deal, Sanders sarcastically replied, “Oh, isn’t that nice.”

Meyers followed the clip with, “You’re asking Bernie what he thinks about a billionaire? That just makes you look like a bad journalist.”

Ultimately, if Ben & Jerry’s is in the market for a straightforward new flavor, Sanders’ “Tax All the Billionaires” would only require two components.
