AMC, DC Giving Away 100,000 Preacher #1 Comics to Promote Series Premiere

Comics News

If you haven’t yet picked up a Preacher comic, there’s no better time than now.

Seth Rogen’s small-screen adaptation of the gritty supernatural comic is set to debut on May 22, and to help promote the new AMC series—and familiarize potential fans with the DC story—both the comics publisher and cable network are giving away 100,000 free copies of Preacher #1.

Fans can grab a digital copy starting Friday, May 13, while physical copies will hit stores on Wednesday, May 18. The issue, written by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, will feature a special cover illustrated by Dillon, with Preacher’s main cast of characters re-imagined to look like the series’ actors.

Preacher is adapted from the dark and popular 90’s comic book franchise created by Ennis and Dillon. Protagonist Jesse Custer is a conflicted, small-Texas-town preacher who is suddenly inhabited by a mysterious entity known as Genesis. The entity gives him the highly unconventional power to make people do what he wants them to do. Harnessing that power, Custer travels across the US on a journey to find God.

Dominic Cooper stars as Custer in the AMC series, while Ruth Negga plays Custer’s ex-girlfriend and ass-kicking travel partner, Tulip. Joseph Gilgun’s Cassidy—an Irish vampire—joins the two on their cross-country journey filled with revenge and discovery.

Catch Preacher on AMC at 10 p.m. EST on May 22.
