DC Comics is releasing an all-new animated feature film, Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts, on May 12 via Blu-Ray, DVD, and VOD. The family-friendly feature includes a number of other DC heroes, including Flash, Green Arrow, Nightwing, and Red Robin.

This is the first of a set of new films from the DC Universe that revolve around their current toy lines. A sequel film is expected later this year, along with two Batman Unlimited shorts and a set of Super Friends shorts.

Animal Instincts tells the story of new and untold danger in Gotham city when an animal-inspired villain squad known as the Animilitia begin to wreak havoc in an unusual crime spree. The team, comprised of Silverback, Cheetah, Killer Croc, and Man-Bat, aren’t the only animals the Caped Crusader must combat, as The Penguin has unleashed an army of robotic cyber animals upon the city as well. Are all of the animal villains in cahoots? Is the Animilitia fighting for The Penguin? Batman must solve these mysteries and more with the help of his fellow masked heroes.

The Blu-Ray Combo Pack and DVD will be packaged with an exclusive Firebat figurine, while supplies last. The film will also be available on Digital HD via purchase from digital retailers including Amazon, iTunes, PlayStation, Vudu, cable and satellite VOD.

“We are thrilled to release Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts, an action-packed DC Comics animated film that is created specifically for our younger fans,” said Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Vice President Mary Ellen Thomas in a press release. “Batman is the world’s most beloved superhero and this DC Comics release will provide family-friendly action and adventure for nonstop entertainment.”
