The strengths of June’s best comic book covers are all over the place, and that’s why we love compiling this monthly feature. Black Cloud #10’s explosive light show is all about showing off colorist Matthew Wilson’s skill set, while Stan Sakai’s Garfield: Homecoming #1 variant is simply a charming, expertly executed illustration from a beloved master of the form. Chip Zdarsky’s logo integration on Sex Criminals #25 captures that title’s off-kilter comedy, but Esad Ribic’s Thor #1 cover provides an unexpected, easily missed dose of humor to the God of Thunder (Mjolnir is a little too powerful to be a bugzapper, big guy). Marcos Martin is one of our repeat offenders this month, thanks to a clever cookie-cutter composition for Multiple Man #1 and the dynamic, evocative Spidey-shadow on Amazing Spider-Man #801, a cover that somehow manages to sum up the character and outgoing writer Dan Slott’s epic run with Peter Parker. Fittingly, Multiple Man actually lands on the list twice, courtesy of a word balloon from Dave Johnson that says what we’re all thinking. Finally, yes, we took the bait—Rob Liefeld gets a spot thanks to an all-pouch character. Hey, we’re only human.
