Exclusive Preview: Hellboy Colorist Dave Stewart Transforms Miller & Darrow’s Hard Boiled Into a Flaming Fever Dream for New Edition

Geof Darrow is a living legend in the comic world, one of the few creators working today who can cite Jack Kirby, Alex Toth and his mentor Mœbius as peers. The Shaolin Cowboy creator and Matrix concept artist is perhaps best known for his collaborations with Sin City auteur Frank Miller: 1990’s cyborg pulp Hard Boiled and 1996’s kaiju-inspired Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot.

Hard Boiled, which earned the duo an Eisner Award upon its initial release, is back on shelves this fall as a deluxe hardcover “Second Edition” from Dark Horse, featuring stunning new colors from Eisner-winning Hellboy colorist Dave Stewart. Stewart’s precise palette brings every micrometer of Darrow’s renowned linework to obscene life, highlighting the sinful depths and hyper-violent heights of Hard Boiled’s grimy future world. Hard Boiled Second Edition is available September 26th, and Paste is proud to exclusively reveal nine pages of Stewart’s new colors below.
