Netflix Acquires Millarworld Comics in First-Ever Acquisition

Netflix’s plan to become the only thing you watch—and the only thing you do at all besides occasionally eat—has taken a decisive step forward. The all-consuming streaming service has made its first acquisition, buying up influential comic book publisher Millarworld. As a result of this purchase, Netflix exclusively secures the rights to dozens of iconic franchises from writer Mark Millar, such as Jupiter’s Legacy, Huck and Reborn.

Though no specific plans for those properties have been announced as of yet, per a Netflix press release, the plan is to bring these “franchises to life through films, series and kids’ shows available exclusively to Netflix members globally. Millarworld will also continue to create and publish new stories and character franchises under the Netflix label.”

“This is only the third time in history a major comic book company has been purchased at this level,” said Millar in a statement. “I’m so in love with what Netflix is doing and excited by their plans. Netflix is the future and Millarworld couldn’t have a better home.”

The transaction’s terms weren’t made public. Read the rest of Millar’s thoughts on the deal here.
