Steve Orlando & Garry Brown Drill for Crude at Skybound Entertainment

Skybound Entertainment, the multi-platform publishing and entertainment company founded in connection with Image Comics by David Alpert and The Walking Dead co-creator Robert Kirkman, has played home to some of our favorite comics in recent memory, including Extremity, Redneck and Kill the Minotaur. This April, writer Steve Orlando, artist Garry Brown, colorist Lee Loughridge and letterer Thomas Mauer join the pack with Crude, a dark family saga about a former assassin investigating the suspicious death of the bisexual son he hardly knew. Set in a Russian refinery city controlled by a powerful private corporation, Crude is at pitch-black as its namesake.

Orlando, currently the writer behind JLA, Supergirl and the upcoming The Unexpected at DC Comics, made a name for himself with the “queer-sploitation” story Virgil before transitioning to the kick-ass action of Midnighter. Brown is a prolific artist, with notable runs on Catwoman and Brian Wood’s eco-activist title The Massive. Crude will hit shelves one month after the debut of Skybound co-founder Robert Kirkman’s highly anticipated new ongoing comic series Oblivion Song, illustrated by Italian artist Lorenzo De Felici. Writer: Steve Orlando
Artist: Garry Brown
Colorist: Lee Loughridge
Letterer: Thomas Mauer
Release Date: April 11, 2018
Crude is the story of former-assassin Piotr Petrovich Bilibin getting to know the son whose true life he didn’t understand. Piotr tried to love his son, Kiril, but fear of himself drove him to keep Kiril at a distance. When it came time for Kiril to come out, he assumed Piotr would never understand, so he sought freedom in the desolate refinery city of Blackstone. He died there, forcing Piotr to retrace his son’s footsteps and investigate. But Blackstone is controlled by the massive oil refining company Petropinnacle, who employed Kiril when he died. Caught in a turf war between corporations, organized crime, and an upstart worker’s revolution that might’ve known Kiril, Piotr has no choice but to fight through the chaos to avenge his son…and maybe, finally, discover who he truly was.
