Chipotle Issued a Subpoena Over Norovirus Incident in California

The troubles don’t seem to be ending for Chipotle anytime soon.

The beloved burrito joint of people all over the country has been issued a federal grand jury subpoena due to the norovirus outbreak in a California Chipotle, according to NBC News.

This means that Chipotle is under a criminal investigation by the government over this virus outbreak. Norovirus is a stomach bug that can cause vomiting, diarrhea and stomach aches.The fast Mexican chain says that they are totally cooperating with the subpoena.

From an 8K form filed today to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Chipotle wrote, “In December 2015, Chipotle was served with a Federal Grand Jury Subpoena from the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California in connection with an official criminal investigation being conducted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, in conjunction with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Office of Criminal Investigations. The subpoena requires us to produce a broad range of documents related to a Chipotle restaurant in Simi Valley, California, that experienced an isolated norovirus incident during August 2015.”

The August 2015 incident is referring to a Simi Valley Chipotle restaurant being slow to report illness until a couple of days after the initial problem.
