Ubisoft Announces New Game Based on James Cameron’s Avatar

Today, Ubisoft announced their development of a game set in the world of James Cameron’s 2009 mega-hit Avatar.

Spearheaded by Massive Entertainment, Ubisoft’s Swedish studio behind last year’s Tom Clancy’s The Division, the game is being co-produced along with Lightstorm Entertainment and Fox Interactive. While no concrete details about the prospective platform, gameplay or a release window have been unveiled, Cameron is already singing the praises of the development team:

What impressed me about Massive were the group’s passion for this project and the power of its Snowdrop engine. I believe Ubisoft’s team at Massive Entertainment are absolutely the right partners to bring the beauty and danger of Pandora to life.

Cameron and Lightstorm apparently decided to move forward with the project after seeing a prototype built in the Snowdrop engine, which is responsible for the tools and assets behind The Division. In other Division news, it was recently announced that Steven Gaghan is set to write and direct the film adaption of the game, which is to star Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain.
