Capcom Confirms Vancouver Staff Cuts, Refocusing of Next Dead Rising Title

Capcom confirmed via Destructoid on Monday that earlier reports of the Vancouver studio laying off 50 employees were true.

The lay-offs came after the company began to re-evaluate its priorities after the lackluster response to Dead Rising 4. A Capcom representative told Destructoid:

Capcom Vancouver has undergone a restructure which has impacted approximately 30 percent of the studio, as part of its regular periodic assessment of upcoming projects and overall studio goals. The team is continuing to work hard to support the recent release of Puzzle Fighter for mobile and is dedicated to its flagship Dead Rising series.

The company appears to be refocusing and scaling back the Dead Rising series for a better reception for the next release. Here’s hoping these lay-offs at least lead to a new and improved installment in the series, and that the former Capcom employees will be back to work soon.
