Here’s the collab you’ve been waiting for: Pop 2 Princess Charli XCX and Princess Peach’s faithful servant Toad. The duo (along with Swedish producers Galantis) were recruited to record a song and video in anticipation of Super Nintendo World, a theme park addition to Universal Studios Japan. The track itself is a lot of fun, using conventions of cheesy electro house with interpolated noises from the beloved Mario games, like the familiar sound effects associated with pipes and coins. There’s a delightful beat drop hearkened by Mario’s famous “here we go!”

XCX provided one of our favorite albums of last year, Charli. The 27-year-old singer and producer has been dipping her toes in several entrepreneurial pursuits over the last 12 months to build on the XCX empire, including signing artists to her recent label Vroom Vroom Recordings, her “putting a band together” reality show I’m With the Band on Netflix, and a one-day music festival curated by herself and Troye Sivan called Go West Fest. It doesn’t seem like the consummate pop star has any plans to slow down this year, given her upcoming appearance at Coachella in April as well as a potential joke tweet on her desire to release two albums in 2020.

just a thought…. I dunno… maybe… don’t hold me to it… fuck
