Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age Standard and Special Editions Detailed

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is the latest edition in the multi-decade-spanning Dragon Quest series. As of Monday, Square Enix has detailed what is included in the standard and special editions of the highly anticipated franchise title.

The standard edition of Dragon Quest XI will cost $60, and be available on both PlayStation 4 and Steam. Those who preorder the standard physical or digital version will be automatically upgraded to the Edition of Light, which includes the following additions: A supplicant (an accessory that has the ability to restore some of the wearer’s MP), three Seeds of Skill (a consumable item that grants an extra skill-point to the consumer) and a Healer (an accessory that has the ability to restore HP). The upgrade to the Edition of Light will be free to those who have already preordered the standard edition, so it makes for a decent deal. The special edition of Dragon Quest XI, dubbed the Edition of Lost Time, will cost $149, and is exclusive to both the PlayStation 4 and the Square Enix Store. Given its steep price tag, it includes a lot of bonus items beyond the core game—said bonuses include a steelbook case, The Companion Compendium (a 128-page hardback artbook showcasing both production and concept art), a 20” by 15” cloth map of Erdrea, a two-disc soundtrack featuring orchestral renditions of in-game music, a Pep Pop (a consumable that “peps up” all allies), the same Supplicant and Healer accessories that are available with the Edition of Light, and 18 Seeds of Skill. The Edition of Lost Time is available to preorder and showcased at the Square Enix Store, as well.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age tells the tale of a man who finds out that he is a reincarnation of a long-dead, legendary hero and must traverse the lands of Erdrea to uncover the truths of his past. It will be the most cinematic entry yet in the Dragon Quest franchise with a third-person camera perspective, new menu layouts, a full English voice cast and localization, and an even more difficult Draconian Quest mode. The title is set to release for PlayStation 4 and PC (via Steam) on Sept. 4 in North America and Europe. There is a planned Nintendo Switch version, but it sadly has no set date at the moment.
