The original Star Wars: Battlefront—the second original from 2015, not the original-original from 2004, try to keep up—was somewhat underwhelming. Sporting unbelievable graphics and solid gameplay, Battlefront initially captured the feeling of being in the Star Wars movies more than almost any game before it. But after a few hours, it became apparent that there wasn’t much else going on. There was’t much of a single player, not much sense of progression and the multiplayer-centric gameplay couldn’t hold up to the Call of Duty’s and Overwatch’s of the world.
That’s what makes Star Wars: Battlefront II (also the second time that name has been used in this franchise) so exciting. The new trailer looks to be genuinely thrilling in a way that consistently eluded its predecessor. The explosions are bigger, the graphics are photorealistic and more eras from the films are explored. It’s shaping up to be a truly fantastic piece of gameplay, and that’s before we even dig too deeply into the new single-player campaign. Hopefully, this doesn’t turn out to be a trap.
