The latest weapon in the pre-order bonus arsenal is the guarantee of limited early access. The bonus means that if you pre-order a game, you’ll be able to play it a few days before everyone else.
Gears of War 4 does something similar, but only for the players who buy the “Ultimate Edition” of the game for $99.99. Anyone who pre-ordered the “Ultimate Edition” (or buys it now) can play the game starting today, four days before those poor “Standard Edition” saps get it.
If that price tag seems a little steep for a few extra days of chainsawing aliens, keep in mind the “Ultimate Edition” also comes with the game’s season pass, which gives you the forthcoming DLC multiplayer maps and some exclusive character and weapon skins.
The rest of us will have to wait until Oct. 11 to play the third-best Gears of War game.
