Niantic’s Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Release Date Revealed

While Pokemon GO saw its massive success two years ago and climbed to the top of the cultural zeitgeist, developer Niantic announced that they were making another game in the same vein as the location-based, augmented reality mobile game—but this time involving the wizarding world of Harry Potter.

The game, called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, will finally be launching this year—and probably way sooner than anyone would have expected. This Friday, June 21, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be playable on Android and iOS devices in the U.K. and U.S.

This wider release follows a test phase that went live in a few other countries, and Niantic will continue to bring the game to other regions as the game progresses.

Not unlike the ever-popular Pokemon GO, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will also be an AR mobile game that will require players to participate by exploring their surroundings. Through their adventures, players can look forward to magical creature encounters, spell casting and run-ins with iconic Harry Potter characters.

With the game launching mere days from now, we’ll all be eagerly waiting to see if Harry Potter: Wizards Unite becomes the same success story we saw with Pokemon GO.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will release on iOS and Android devices this Friday, June 21. Watch the game’s cinematic launch trailer below.
