Mario Kart Tour Is the Next Nintendo Title for Smartphones

Nintendo’s recent pattern of bringing their heralded franchises to the mobile marketplace is continuing with the announcement of Mario Kart Tour via Twitter.

The title is the next in a series of mobile games from the beloved videogame forefather, following Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. The news didn’t include any further information beyond that the game will hit app stores sometime before the financial year wraps at the end of March 2019. It also marks the first update to Nintendo’s smartphone strategy since it was revealed that the company was ending its first mobile title, Miitomo.
Mario Kart should cater well to the progress-and-unlock cycle that is the standard of mobile games with its potential unlockable tracks, skins and racers. The popularity of the series, topping 100 million copies sold worldwide, sets a very promising stage for the next step in Nintendo’s spread to smartphones.
