Marvel and Chinese Internet Tech Giant NetEase Pair up for New Projects

Entertainment giant Marvel and China’s leading internet technology company announced Monday that they have formed a strategic partnership to collaborate on forthcoming projects. Marvel and NetEase plan to create joint products, including games, television shows and comic books, available in China and beyond.

NetEase’s founder and CEO, William Ding, had this to say about the future of both companies in a statement:

Having admired the work Marvel has created over the years, we are excited to incorporate these beloved stories and characters into world-class entertainment content for global fans. […] We will work hard to deliver the type of high-quality content that game players and Marvel fans will be pleased to see.

President of Marvel Entertainment Dan Buckley added:

Marvel’s Super Heroes have inspired an entire universe of storytelling that resonates across today’s media—and games are one of the best ways to experience those stories. As a global leader in online games, NetEase is the perfect fit to help bring the Marvel Universe to more fans around the world. We can’t wait to share more about the exciting new games and other content that will be developed with this partnership.

Ding created the tech leader in 1997. The company developed the popular MMORPG series Westward Journey, and also partners with American developer Blizzard Entertainment, bringing to China a wealth of popular franchises like World of Warcraft and Starcraft.

Marvel is, of course, responsible for world-conquering characters like the Avengers and the X-Men. No official projects have been announced as of yet, but Paste will keep you updated as this develops.
