Marvel Partners with Tomb Raider and Deus Ex Studios for Avengers Game

Square Enix announced a “multi-game” partnership with Marvel this morning, as well as the co-development of a new Avengers game by two of their top studios.

Tomb Raider developers Crystal Dynamics and current Deus Ex devs Eidos Montreal are co-developing the project. They’ve released a brief cinematic announcement trailer in which we can see Captain America’s shield, Iron Man’s gauntlet and Thor’s hammer, all of which look to be lost or in pretty bad condition. We can also hear a raging Hulk’s voice juxtaposed with a shot of two large and broken-open metal doors, suggesting that Dr. Banner is still alive somewhere out there. The video ends displaying a simple hashtag: “#Reassemble.”

You can check out the announcement trailer below, and while details are scarce, here’s the description provided on the video’s YouTube page:

Marvel Entertainment and Square Enix announced today a multi-year, multi-game partnership, leading with the reveal of The Avengers project. This newly established partnership pairs the creative minds at Marvel and Square Enix for one of the most powerful alliances in interactive entertainment …

The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come. More details on The Avengers project and other games will be announced in 2018.

Crystal Dynamics is also rumored to be working on another Tomb Raider sequel that’s supposedly titled Shadow of the Tomb Raider, according to an apparent accidental leak by an employee of the studio. This increased studio workload might explain the new Marvel game’s co-development with Eidos Montreal.
