Several Killed in Mass Shooting at Madden 19 Tournament in Florida

Four people were killed and at least 11 more were wounded during a mass shooting at a Madden 19 tournament in Jacksonville, Fla., today, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The shooting occurred at the GLHF Game Bar at Jacksonville Landing, a riverside open-air shopping district, during the Southeastern Qualifier for this year’s NFL Madden Championship Series.

News of the shooting initially spread through social media. The event was streaming live on Twitch, where viewers heard the sounds of gunshots and screams over the video feed. Drini Gjoka, an entrant in the tournament who plays for Complexity Gaming and received a wound to his thumb in the shooting, wrote a series of tweets shortly after it happened, before police confirmed the incident.

The Twitch footage was widely shared online before it was removed from the streaming service. Although you can’t see the shooting, the audio is still deeply unsettling, and Paste does not recommend watching or sharing it.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office later confirmed through Twitter that one suspect died at the scene, and announced that there are no other suspects at a later press conference. If you have any information on the shooting, they ask to be contacted at 904-630-0500 or 866-845-TIPS, or emailed at [email protected].
