Shigeru Miyamoto Gives Update on Pikmin 4: Not as Close as We Thought

Games News

Shigeru Miyamoto, creator and designer of Nintendo’s puzzle solving on a cute alien planet Pikmin series, said that Pikmin 4 is still in development, but hasn’t been on the “list of priorities” lately, he told GameRant.

“We’re working on [Pikmin 4],” Miyamoto said. “So, you know, when we’re in development we have to create a list of priorities and it has been hard to kind of fit that into that list, but we’re hopefully starting to see that on the list now.”

We last heard about Pikmin 4 at E3 2015, where Miyamoto said “It’s actually very close to completion.” Pikmin has always been one of Nintendo’s stranger franchises: never their most popular, but with a following that loves the games for their weird cuteness. It’s likely Pikmin 4 and Miyamoto’s attention had to be diverted to focus on the NX, Nintendo’s next system, and any potential launch titles for next March. That said, we still know remarkably little about the system, and the only confirmed launch titles are The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Just Dance 2017. Here’s hoping we’ll see Pikmin 4 sooner rather than later.
