Night Trap—Yes, That Night Trap—Getting Modern Console Re-release

Night Trap, the legendarily terrible 1992 full motion video (FMV) game, is getting a 25th anniversary re-release on PS4 and Xbox One this spring.

Originally released for the Sega CD, the game’s narrative conceit puts players in charge of protecting partying young women via a high-tech security system, which can snare the evil and vampiric Augers in various traps set throughout a house. The controversial game is infamous for having been used as an example in U.S. Senate hearings on violent videogames and helping to directly lead to the founding of the Entertainment Software Ratings Board.

Alongside its digital release via Kentucky developer Screaming Villains, Limited Run Games are giving Night Trap a proper physical release for PS4, the packaging for which you can see below:

A previous attempt was made at reviving the game via a failed Kickstarter campaign in 2014, where the project received barely over a tenth of its necessary funding.

You can check out the 25th anniversary trailer below, as well as the game’s re-released 1992 theme song here.
