20 SNES Games Are Now Available Through Switch Online
Nintendo unleashed a torrent of news through another one of their Nintendo Direct streams yesterday. Among the games and release dates and new Smash fighters that were announced, Nintendo also revealed that Switch Online would finally start adding Super Nintendo games to its lineup of classics. And it turns out we won’t even have to wait that long: 20 SNES games are now available on Switch Online today, and, as always, are free for subscribers to the online service. It’s like Christmas came early—or, since these are the hottest games of the early ‘90s, almost 30 years late.
The lineup hits pretty much all the first-party bases for Nintendo’s 16-bit system. It’s got your Super Mario World, your F-Zero, your Super Metroid—even your Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. If you’re looking for a reason to subscribe to Switch Online beyond just being able to play games through the internet, this collection of classics (in addition to all the NES games that have been released for it over the last year) might tip the scales for you.
If you really want to relive the SNES days, Nintendo’s also going to be releasing a limited edition SNES controller that connects to the Switch. So all that Super Mario Kart muscle memory will still come in handy.
Here’s the full list of SNES games that are available through Switch Online today. Yes, like half of them start with the letter S.
