Nintendo America President Reggie Fils-Aimé to Retire

After 13 years as the president of Nintendo America, Reggie Fils-Aimé is set to retire on April 15.

Fils-Aimé began his 15-year tenure with the development company during the pivotal GameCube/GameBoy Advance era. He also gained notoriety among fans from his fun, lighthearted approaches to his appearances at industry events and live presentations.

Fils-Aimé (more commonly known as the “Regginator”) said of his bittersweet retirement:

Nintendo owns a part of my heart forever. It’s a part that is filled with gratitude—for the incredibly talented people I’ve worked with, for the opportunity to represent such a wonderful brand, and most of all, to feel like a member of the world’s most positive and enduring gamer community. As I look forward to departing in both good health and good humor, this is not ‘game over’ for me, but instead ‘leveling up’ to more time with my wife, family and friends.

He will be succeeded by the company’s vice president of sales, Doug Bowser, because some things truly are meant to be. Learn more about Bowser’s vision for the company’s handheld future by revisiting our 2017 conversation with the soon-to-be president here.
