Nintendo Switch’s Online Service Will Finally Launch in September

It took a year, but Nintendo is finally launching the Switch’s online service in September 2018. The service was originally slated to go live last fall but hit multiple delays.

When it goes live, fans that have enjoyed playing Switch titles online for free will have to pay $20 a year to continue doing so. The price point is notably lower than other subscription services like Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, and will surely irk some players that have enjoyed not having to pay for the platform’s online capabilities.

The good news, at least, is that your Switch online subscription does deliver the ability to play select classic Nintendo titles with newly implemented online gameplay and Nintendo eShop discounts.

For those who might not want to fully commit to a year-long subscription, Nintendo will also offer short-term subscriptions, with one-month memberships costing $4 and three-month memberships costing $8.
