Obsidian Announces Fig Campaign for Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire

Veteran RPG developer Obsidian Entertainment (Fallout: New Vegas, South Park: The Stick of Truth) has officially announced the sequel to their 2015 Kickstarter-funded role-playing game.

This time, the studio is funding the project through Fig, the crowdfunding platform that actually gives those who donate a return on their investment. Fans who give their money will receive equity from the studio. The funding goal is set at $1.1 million, with $2.25 million open for equity.

The original Pillars game shared the same funding goal when its Kickstarter campaign launched in 2012, and managed to raise just shy of $4 million. The sequel’s announcement video boasts more dynamic environments and NPCs in the game, as well as notably higher graphical fidelity.

The developers expressed their excitement at the campaign’s announcement on their Fig page:

Obsidian Entertainment proudly presents the sequel to our crowdfunded and critically-acclaimed role-playing game, Pillars of Eternity. Welcome to Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. With Pillars II, we are revisiting the rich narrative, beautiful environments, and tactical combat that made Pillars of Eternity one of the highest-rated PC games of all time. Having a development team of over 77,000 people made the first game possible, but your feedback and community support made it amazing! Our team wants to take you on a second journey to Eora. We couldn’t be more excited to get all of you involved in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.

Studio CEO Feargus Urquheart says the team has been working on the game over the past year. Their current estimated release window for the game is set for Q1 of 2018.
