Confirming what was hinted at in the last trailer, Pokémon riding is totally a thing and it looks awesome. I can't wait to ride around on my Charizard, or any number of other Pokémon through the skies, across the land and through the water.

The Island Challenge
The Island Challenge is a new component to the classic trainer's journey. The Island Challenge involves battling against the Trial Captain of each island. They function similarly to gym leaders, specializing in a certain Pokémon Type. At the end of each Trial you face off against a Totem Pokémon, a more powerful version of Pokémon such as Gumshoos. After clearing each island's trial, you can face off against the Kahunas, one of whom is Hala, the old man who guides you in your home town.

And lastly, the new mechanic of Z-Moves was revealed. Z-Moves are a special type of move that can only be used once per battle. Each Pokémon Type (Grass, Electric, Fire, etc.) has its own unique Z-Move. The Z-Move is activated by a link between Pokémon and Trainer, initiated through a dance. The Z-Moves are so powerful they transform the battlefield, as witnessed here with Popplio flooding the arena and creating a vortex. To perform a Z-Move, a Pokémon and the Trainer must both be holding the same type of Z-Crystal, a special new item. In addition, the Pokémon also know a move of the same Type as the Z-Crystal it is holding to then perform a Z-Move, which are some of the most powerful moves in Pokémon Sun and Moon.
