Skyrim Remaster Will Only Be Free for PC Owners

During last week’s E3, Bethesda confirmed rumors that a remastered The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: Definitive Edition would release on PS4, Xbox One and PC on Oct. 28.

Not long after the big news, Bethesda announced that players who owned either a PC copy of the game with all of the downloadable content or the Legendary Edition on Steam would receive the Skyrim remaster for free.

One curious fan, Twitter user @SerpentMonkey, wanted to know if this same deal would be given to PS4 and Xbox One owners. He took the case directly to Bethesda vice president of PR and marketing Pete Hines by tweeting this carefully stated, mild message:

Hines replied, reasoning that PC owners are getting the new edition free because “it already exists on PC, with high res textures.”

The fan then questioned Hines on why last year’s Dishonored: Definitive Edition features a measly $20 price, compared to the upcoming Skyrim: Definitive Edition’s full $60.

“Price is the price. Every game is different,” offered Hines vaguely.

The whole exchange is worth a read for how heated it gets, especially towards the end. Watch the Skyrim remaster trailer below and read our recap of Bethesda’s E3 conference here.
