PlayStation 4 Lifetime Sales Reach 100 Million Units Shipped

Even Microsoft diehards are going to have to hand it to Sony for this one.

As revealed in Sony’s latest earnings report, PlayStation 4 sales have reached a huge milestone, selling 100 million units since launch. That’s a lot of PlayStations.

According to videogame analyst Daniel Ahmad (via GameSpot), the PlayStation 4 is now the fastest console to hit 100 million units shipped (it took five years and seven months), surpassing the lifetime sales swiftness of both the PlayStation 2 and the Nintendo Wii.

It’s also interesting to note that the Nintendo Switch is on track to hit the same milestone as the PlayStation 4 in the same amount of time, which may change soon (in Nintendo’s favor) with the release of the Nintendo Switch Lite and the rumored, upgraded Nintendo Switch.

Although the launch of the PlayStation 5 is right around the corner (it’s expected to come out next year), the PS4 has plenty of big sales numbers in the offing still, thanks to the upcoming, PlayStation 4-exclusive releases of Death Stranding, The Last of Us: Part II and the Final Fantasy VII Remake.
