Upcoming Splatoon 2 Splatfest Makes Players Choose Between Flight vs. Invisibility

Possibly one of the more fun aspects of Splatoon and its Nintendo Switch sequel are the regular Splatfests. These events give the game’s environment a new nightlife aesthetic, and pit players against each other in two teams. The themes of these teams are usually made up from some yin/yang binary, like Cats vs. Dogs—admittedly, some of these matchups are less clear, like whatever the heck Past vs. Future means. The latest Splatfest however, asks a hypothetical from players: Would you rather have flight or invisibility as a superpower?

You can choose your hypothetical superpower in the Inkopolis Plaza, receiving a complimentary T-shirt for your inkling (you’ll return it after the event, however). Nintendo announced the two stages that will rotate for all of Saturday through a Tumblr post, those being relatively new map Manta Maria and a reconfigured version of Shifty Station.

The previous Splatfest pitted mayonnaise against ketchup, with mayo controversially being the final victor. While Splatoon 2 players overwhelmingly picked ketchup over the opposing condiment, it appears that more matches were won by Team Mayo, giving that side the edge. Disgustingly enough, the ink used by each team resembled their condiment of choice, resulting in the maps being covered in off-white and dark red substances. The unfortunate side effect, as you can gather, is that the ink ended up resembling certain body fluids that we will refrain from mentioning here. No word yet on if the ink for this new Splatfest will be themed—having invisible ink and flying ink would be counterproductive to the game’s messiness.

This Splatfest will start Sept. 2 at 12 a.m., and last for a full 24 hours. Check out our review of Splatoon 2 here.
