Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz Is Getting an HD Remake

Quirky Sega series (but what Sega series isn’t quirky?) Super Monkey Ball had been put on ice since 2014’s mobile Peggle rip-off Super Monkey Ball Bounce, much to its cult fanbase’s dismay. Now, Sega is finally thawing the series out with the announcement of an HD remake of 2006’s Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, a launch title for the Nintendo Wii.

The remake, creatively titled Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD, was first leaked by the Taiwanese games rating board last week. It then made its official debut in Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, and a Western release was quickly confirmed by a teaser trailer on Sega of America’s YouTube channel. The Famitsu article shows off the remake’s bright, cartoony graphics, a new two-color GUI seemingly influenced by Sonic Forces’ eye-catching menus, and that’s it. All the cast seems to be returning from the original, as well, and the plot (a space ape steals a precious golden banana) appears the same.

What is also crystal is the U.S. release dates: Oct. 29 on Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. There is also a Steam release planned for “Winter 2019.”
