The Legend of Wright, a meticulously hand-drawn indie RPG, is set to launch on Xbox One, PC and mobile in spring 2020.
Helmed by the Japanese indie studio Desk Works, The Legend of Wright is chock-full of pencil-etched doodles that come alive on screen, transforming into playable characters and interactive items.
As the game grants us entry into a student’s notebook full of imaginative doodles, the art seems to be sketched by hand on actual paper, then taped and glued together to create a world of monsters, castles and heroes.
In the trailer, we watch the doodle of our hero protagonist flit around various environments, uncover treasure and fight off Etch-A-Sketch monsters.
Inspired by classic tabletop RPGs, also called pen-and-paper role-playing games, the game challenges players to meet a student and spring developer in an empty classroom for a grand adventure.
“School’s out!” the trailer’s description reads. “You’re sure to be dazzled by his hand-drawn creations as you journey into the surprising and magical world of imagination! Forget about homework! Come play RPG Time: The Legend of Wright with us!”
