Gwent‘s Public Beta Begins Next Week

The Witcher’s beloved card mini-game is getting a standalone title, and it’s finally coming out of closed beta. Gwent’s public beta begins Wednesday, May 24, for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

“Public Beta is the next step in the game’s development process, one that we’d be honored to continue alongside everyone who’s been with us thus far,” Benjamin Lee, development director at CD Projekt RED, said. “It’s also a chance for many new gamers to play Gwent for the first time and we’re looking forward to making the game even better with their help.”

This Heathstone-esque competitive card game pits players against each other in best-of-three rounds. Players must choose a faction—Nifgaardian Empire, Skellige, Monsters and more—then battle head-to-head with carefully constructed decks filled with spells, units, special abilities and tricks to take the game.

A transition period from closed beta to public will begin on May 22, closing the servers until May 24. Both the Gwent Facebook and Twitter will update the game’s status.

When the public beta opens, everything will be wiped clean, but don’t fret, closed beta players. All closed beta players will receive card kegs and other rewards for participation. For more details on that, head on over to the Gwent website.

In other Witcher news, the famed fantasy series will be getting its own drama series on Netflix.
