THQ Nordic Is Skipping E3 to Watch the World Cup

E3 is a few months away, but multiple industry staples have already announced their intentions to not exhibit their forthcoming offerings at the conference. We can now add THQ Nordic to that list, after the company announced on Friday that they will not be attending the industry mega show in June.

Unlike other companies that are still holding their own separate events around the conference, such as EA and Xbox, THQ Nordic isn’t coming to Los Angeles at all, deciding to stay in their native Austria to catch the opening of the 2018 World Cup. “It is with great regret that we at THQ Nordic must report that we will be unable to miss a single moment of this great sporting event … Therefore, we will be forced to stay in our lovely Viennese beer gardens, blowing the froth off a couple, watching football and one or two cool press conferences on Twitch (looking at you, Devolver) instead of rocking it ourselves,” reads the company’s statement.

While THQ Nordic has historically had a lighter presence at E3, the company is fresh off its acquisition of Koch Media, a purchase that netted them Dying Light developer Deep Silver, and has a full slate of new titles to show off, including Darkstalkers 3, Biomutant and Fade to Silence. The company also recently announced a “Re-Mars-tered” edition of Red Faction Guerrilla.

While the global soccer tournament will impact their presence at E3, THQ Nordic still plans to bring their forthcoming titles to Gamescom and PAX West later this year.

The World Cup is a huge deal, but it is interesting to note that Austria, just like the U.S., is not in the field of 32 that will take the pitch in Russia this summer.
