Turtle Rock Studios and Oculus Announce Two New VR Titles

Games News Turtle Rock Studios

Today Turtle Rock Studios (makers of Left 4 Dead and Evolve) and Oculus announced two new titles coming to Gear VR: Other Worlds and Face Your Fears.

Other Worlds is an immersive and meditative VR experience that allows players to experience being inside a painting. The game showcases three unique worlds, all from the mind of artist Justin Cherry, and rendered in a 360-degree panoramic view, complete with three-dimensional sound. Take in and explore the environment long enough, and you may see one of many random events tailored to the world you are currently in.

Face Your Fears players encounter a variety of terrifying scenes based on various fears and phobias. In “Skyscraper,” your acrophobia is tested by standing on the ledge of a skyscraper in the middle of a big city. In “the Haunting,” you experience the fearful experience of being a child in a paranormally active bedroom. What starts with a creaking house and distant thunder crescendos into frightening moments that build up based on where you’re looking (or not looking).

Chris Ashton, co-founder and design director at Turtle Rock, said in a statement:

Ever since Phil Robb and I got a Rift demo at E3 a few years back, we knew we had to get into VR. It’s such an awesome, immersive experience. There is so much potential and so much to learn. Working with Oculus has been amazing for everyone on the team. VR leverages a lot of what we’ve learned while making AAA games for PC and console but the possibilities here feel endless. We’re breaking new ground and that’s something that has always spoken to the soul of TRS.

“Turtle Rock is one of the most creative gaming studios around,” added Jason Rubin, head of content at Oculus. “We’re excited to see them jump into VR and create something that will have users screaming this Halloween.”

Both games will launch through the Oculus Store this month—Face Your Fears launches on Oct. 31, naturally, while Other Worlds is without an exact launch date. See Face Your Fears unveiled as part of the Oculus keynote here.
