It's hard to believe, but Bruce Springsteen turns 60 today. To celebrate the occasion, I've been watching some of his performances on YouTube, and here are five of my favorites. I finally saw him live earlier this year at Bonnaroo, and fully grasped the whole "Boss" thing.
"Born To Run"
Phoenix (July 8, 1978)
It's strange to think that Bruce and Clarence and the gang have been pouring themselves into their live shows for more than 30 years.
Paris (June 29, 1985)
A harmonica-wielding Boss played the Parc De La Courneuve, and the French knew every word.
I'm not sure the date on this one, but even without The E Street Band, Springsteen has the crowd in his hand.
Live in NY (2007)
An absolutely haunting performance.
(June 28, 2009)
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band played some big festivals this summer, including Bonnaroo. The day after his Glastonbury appearance, the Boss channeled his inner punk on The Clash's "London Calling" at the Hard Rock Calling Festival in London's Hyde Park.
