Watch Four Friends Undertake an Art Heist in the First Trailer for American Animals

At a glance, it feels like we already know how the story of American Animals will end, because we’ve all seen enough movies and heard enough stories to know that four teenagers undertaking a heist will not end well. However, the film’s first trailer, debuted Wednesday, manages to pique our interest and make us think maybe these kids will get away with this caper after all.

The official American Animals synopsis reads:

The extraordinary and thrilling true story of four friends (Evan Peters, Barry Keoghan, Blake Jenner, and Jared Abrahamson) living an ordinary existence who brazenly attempt to execute one of the most audacious art heists in U.S. history. But not everything is as it seems, and as the daring theft unfolds through each of their perspectives, each of them start to question whether their attempts to inject excitement and purpose into their lives is simply a misguided attempt at achieving the American Dream.

Peters is best known for his various roles on American Horror Story, being one of the few cast members to star in every season. Keoghan gave his breakout performance in last year’s The Killing of a Sacred Deer, earning him a Spirit Award nomination. Jenner made his entry into the big leagues with his role in the Golden Globe-winning series Glee, thus moving him to features where he co-starred alongside Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld in 2016’s The Edge of Seventeen. Abrahamson most recently starred in the Netflix series Traveler with Eric McCormack.

American Animals premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival to positive reviews, and opens in theaters on June 1. Bart Layton (The Imposter) wrote and directed. Check out the film’s trailer and official poster below.
