Anthony Mackie to Produce and Star in Netflix Sci-Fi Action Film Outside The Wire

Not slowing down since the release of Avengers: Endgame, actor Anthony Mackie will produce and star in the forthcoming sci-fi Netflix film Outside The Wire, per Deadline.

The film, which will be directed by Escape Plan’s Mikael Håfström, is set in the future and follows Mackie as a drone pilot who is sent to a dangerous, militarized zone. From there he teams up with an android office to locate a doomsday device before it falls into the possession of the film’s bad guys—a classic action movie plot.

Mackie will produce the film alongside Automatik’s Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Sinister) and 42’s Ben Pugh (Ironbark), and Erica Steinberg (Death Proof). Jason Spire (Operation Finale) will also produce for Inspire Entertainment. The script is written by videogame writers Rob Yescombe and Rowan Athale. Netflix previously partnered with Automatik and 42 on their forthcoming In The Shadow Of The Moon.

Mackie is most notable for his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Falcon, as well as his role in Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker, which took home the Oscar in six categories, including Best Picture. Most recently, Mackie starred in one of the three episodes from season five of Black Mirror and he can be seen in the forthcoming thriller The Woman In The Window. Otherwise, Mackie will be reprising his Marvel role in the Disney+ series Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
