The Blade Runner 2049 Trailer is Here And It’s Absolutely Nuts

Why hasn’t Roger Deakins won an Oscar yet? One of the greatest cinematographers working has given us some of the most iconic images in film history and has worked with absolute legends all along the way, and based on his profile of work and talent behind the camera, it’s absolutely baffling that he hasn’t won one of those little golden men. Well, this year, he’ll be making an incredible case for an Oscar win with Blade Runner 2049. The full trailer released today and it is at the same time absolutely nuts and mind-numbingly beautiful.

Denis Villeneuve returns to sci-fi with Blade Runner 2049, where blade runner and LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling) discovers a plan to destroy what’s left of society, which then forces him to find the retired blade runner, Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford, looking gruff as ever). And this trailer is chock-full of good stuff. Not only are there absolutely gorgeous visuals, but we also get to see Jared Leto (and thank goodness he’s not wearing that awful Joker makeup), Mackenzie Davis and Dave Bautista throwing someone through a wall, as he is wont to do. It’s a little hard to tell where all this is, but it’s all very exciting. And if it’s anything as heady and cerebral as Villeneuve’s Arrival, then you’d better gird your loins.

Blade Runner 2049 sees theaters on Oct. 6, and you can see the trailer above. So go ahead and get on that.
