Bo Burnham Will Contribute Songs to Forthcoming Sesame Street Film Adaptation

Bo Burnham will contribute songs to the forthcoming live-action adaptation of Sesame Street, set to hit theaters in 2021, per Deadline.

The film will follow the Sesame Street gang as they are expelled from their neighborhood and wind up in Manhattan, where they meet the plucky host of a history show and help her prove that Sesame Street exists.

The Eighth Grade director (whose musical stylings are at the forefront of his two Netflix comedy specials) will be working alongside director Jonathan Krisel (Portlandia), producers Shawn Levy and Michael Aguilar, and writers Mike Rosolio and Chris Galletta to whip the film into shape.

Anne Hathaway is attached to star.

Burnham’s debut directorial turn in Eighth Grade won him the Spirit Award for best first screenplay, the Writers Guild Award for original screenplay and the Directors Guild Award for first-time feature directing in 2018. Burnham recently appeared in smaller roles in The Big Sick and Rough Night, and will appear in Emerald Fennell’s forthcoming thriller Promising Young Woman.

Let’s just hope his dark and tortured side (see below) doesn’t find itself seeping into the children’s film, which is set for a Jan. 15, 2021, release.
