Trumbo Trailer Offers First Look at Bryan Cranston’s Latest

Say his name—Walter White. Bryan Cranston’s now-legendary Breaking Bad character is giving way to someone a little bit different of late: embattled 1940s screenwriter Dalton Trumbo.

The new poster (bottom) and trailer (top) for Trumbo, the biopic directed by Jay Roach (Game Change), provides our first glimpse of Cranston as the dour, mustachioed, screenwriting, whiskey-sipping, cigarette holder-clutching title character. The stylish visual also accentuates Trumbo’s fantastic cast, which includes Diane Lane, Helen Mirren, John Goodman, Elle Fanning, Louis C.K., Michael Stuhlbarg, Adewale Akkinnuoye-Agbaje, Alan Tudyk and Stephen Root, among others.

The film follows Trumbo’s thriving career, which is brought to a bitter end when he and other Hollywood figures are blacklisted for their political beliefs during Tinseltown’s Red Scare. Trumbo tells the story of Cranston’s character’s clashes with both the U.S. government and movie studio bigwigs, a war over words and freedom that embroils everyone from Hedda Hopper (Academy Award-winner Mirren) and John Wayne (David James Elliott, Mad Men) to Kirk Douglas (Dean O’Gorman, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies) and Otto Preminger (Christian Berkel, Inglourious Basterds), as per the film’s synopsis.

We can’t wait to see the film’s star sinking his teeth into this role—no one plays a bold, intelligent operator with his back against the wall quite like Cranston. Long live Heisenberg.

Trumbo hits select theaters on Nov. 6. Check out the poster below.
