HBO Documentary on Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds Gets Premiere Date

Movies News Carrie Fisher

An HBO documentary about the relationship between Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds has been given a new premiere date, per Variety. Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds follows the mother-daughter duo throughout their lives, chronicling their estrangement in the 1970s and 1980s, their reconciliation a decade later, and how close they became in their final years.

Fisher passed away on Dec. 27 after suffering cardiac arrest on a flight from London to Los Angeles four days earlier. The next day, Reynolds had a stroke and died. In light of these tragic events, HBO made the decision to move up the premiere date from March to January.

“It’s a love story,” said HBO Documentary Films president Sheila Nevins. “Carrie wanted to make Bright Lights for Debbie and Debbie wanted to make it for Carrie.”

Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds will premiere on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. EST.
