Sony has found their new “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” Actress Claire Foy, currently up for an Emmy for her role in Netflix’s The Crown, will portray the iconic hacker and P.I. Lisbeth Salander in The Girl In The Spider’s Web. Directed by Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead), this film will adapt the book of the same name by David Lagercrantz.
Lagercrantz continued the Millennium series started by the Swedish late author and journalist Stieg Larsson. The first installment of the book series, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, was adapted in Sweden, with Noomi Rapace in the title role, with an English-language adaptation coming from Sony and director David Fincher with Rooney Mara as Salander. Unlike the Swedish film, the American film did not have any follow-ups with Fincher and stars Mara and Daniel Craig, so Spider’s Web will represent somewhat of a clean slate for the film franchise.
The film will be written by Alvarez, Steven Knight (Allied, Eastern Promises) and Jay Basu. The Girl In The Spider’s Web is due for release on Oct. 19, 2018. Meanwhile, check out our reviews for both Dragon Tattoo adaptations here (2009 Swedish version) and here (2011 American version).
