J.J. Abrams Sets Next Cloverfield Movie for October 2017 Release

Movies News Cloverfield

J.J. Abrams is the master of his own domain. The Force Awakens director is set to produce The God Particle, a film that was supposed to hit theaters in Feb. of 2017. Recently, rumors have suggested that the film is actually the next “spiritual” sequel to Cloverfield, following in the footsteps of the shockingly good 10 Cloverfield Lane. Now, Paramount has removed The God Particle from its forthcoming slate, and replaced it with an untitled Cloverfield movie set to be released in October of 2017.

This move seems to suggest that the rumors surrounding The God Particle were accurate, and suggests an expansion of the Cloverfield universe. This next installment will reportedly be set almost entirely in space, and will follow a group of astronauts who get stuck on board a space station when the Earth disappears following a scientific experiment gone wrong. The crew is confronted with a “terrifying discovery that challenges all they know about the fabric of reality,” and must decide whether an incoming spaceship is friendly or not.

The film has a stacked cast consisting of David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ziyi Zhang, Daniel Brühl, Elizabeth Debicki and Chris O’Dowd. The script was written by Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street) and Doug Jung (Star Trek Beyond). The film is directed by Julius Onah, and will hit theaters next October.
