The New Cloverfield Film Debuts on Netflix Tonight

In an appropriately astonishing turn of events, the latest entry in the perpetually enigmatic, J.J. Abrams-produced Cloverfield franchise is streaming on Netflix tonight after Super Bowl LII.

The film, previously referred to as God Particle, is titled The Cloverfield Paradox, and it stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, David Oyelowo, Daniel Brühl, John Ortiz, Chris O’Dowd, Elizabeth Debicki and Ziyi Zhang. Julius Onah directed from a script by Oren Uziel and Doug Jung.

Netflix offers the following brief synopsis:

Orbiting above a planet on the brink of war, scientists test a device to solve an energy crisis and end up face-to-face with a dark alternate reality.

In late January, reports indicated that Netflix would acquire the film from Paramount. Clearly, that acquisition was successful, with the streamer unveiling this unprecedented surprise release on the biggest stage possible.

The Cloverfield Paradox follows 2016’s 10 Cloverfield Lane and 2008’s franchise-seeding Cloverfield.

The Cloverfield Paradox streams on Netflix later this evening, likely around 10 p.m. EST. Watch the film’s Super Bowl spot below.
