Based on the international bestselling novel by Kevin Kwan, Warner Bros. Pictures presents the first trailer for Crazy Rich Asians.
The hilarious-looking film follows New York native Rachel Chu as she accompanies her longterm boyfriend, Nick Young, to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore. With her not knowing much about Nick’s family, to say she faces a bit of an unexpected welcome is a massive understatement. Nick’s family is not just rich, they’re crazy rich, and Nick is not just a normal guy, he’s one of the most desired bachelors back home. Rachel, who clearly is not part of that society, becomes public enemy number one in the eyes of jealous socialites and Nick’s disapproving mother.
Jon M. Chu (Now You See Me 2) directs the adaptation with Nina Jacobson (The Hunger Games) and Brad Simpson (forthcoming The Goldfinch) producing under their Color Force banner, and Ivanhoe Pictures’ John Penotti (Hell or High Water). Author Kevin Kwan executive produces the film as well, with Peter Chiarelli (The Proposal) and Adele Lim (One Tree Hill) writing the screenplay.
The film stars Constance Wu (Fresh off the Boat) as Rachel and introduces Henry Golding as Nick Young. Featuring an amazing ensemble cast including Michelle Yeoh (Memoirs of a Geisha, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) as Nick’s mother with Awkwafina (the forthcoming Ocean’s 8, Paradise Hills), Gemma Chan ( Humans, the forthcoming Mary Queen of Scots), Ken Jeong (The Hangover franchise), Chris Pang (Marco Polo), Jimmy O. Yang (Silicon Valley), comedian Ronny Chieng (The Daily Show), Remi Hii (Marco Polo), Nico Santos (Superstore) and Sonoya Mizuno (La La Land, Ex Machina).
Crazy Rich Asians was shot entirely on location in Singapore and Malaysia. Catch it in cinemas in the U.S. on Aug. 30 with a special release in the Philippines starting Aug. 22.
