Academy Award winners Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem star in the newest feature from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Asghar Farhadi (A Separation, The Salesman). Everybody Knows is a psychological thriller about a woman, Laura, who accompanies her family from Buenos Aires to the small Spanish village where she was born to attend her sister’s wedding. Unexpected events ensue that turn this family gathering into a dark crisis that exposes the family’s secret past.
Cruz and Bardem, a real-life couple, have starred together in multiple projects, including the Oscar-winning Vicky Cristina Barcelona, The Counselor and Loving Pablo. The Oscar winners have both been busy as of late: Cruz was last seen in Murder on the Orient Express and currently stars on American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace, in which she plays the late fashion designer’s sister, Donatella Versace. Bardem recently starred in Darren Aronofsky’s Mother! and will be seen in the forthcoming Spielberg-produced limited series Cortes.
The film will make its premiere at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival as the festival’s opening night feature. Everybody Knows awaits a U.S. distribution deal but will open in France on May 9, following its premiere.
