Hailee Steinfeld to Lead New Romantic Comedy Voicemails for Isabelle

Known for her breakout role in the Coen Brothers remake of True Grit and the coming-of-age triumph The Edge of Seventeen, actress Hailee Steinfeld is set to star in the forthcoming romantic comedy Voicemails for Isabelle, which THR describes as “a rom-com for the 21st century centering on a young woman navigating the dating scene in Los Angeles.”

The film has been preemptively picked up by Sony and director Sharon Maguire is in negotiations to direct. Maguire is known for her pioneering rom-com Bridget Jones’ Diary and it’s 2016 sequel Bridget Jones’ Baby.

Steinfeld’s latest works include the nth Transformers film, spinoff Bumblebee, as well as voice work in the critically acclaimed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tish and Becky Sanderman will tackle production on the film. Escape Artists’ latest venture is the Mattel toys-inspired live-action feature of Masters of the Universe.

Though plot details and release dates are being kept under wraps, one can assume that Maguire’s directing eye for rom-coms and Steinfeld’s knack for acting bode well for Voicemails for Isabelle.
