Jeffrey Wright Hunts a Killer Wolf in the First Trailer for Jeremy Saulnier’s Hold The Dark

Fans of the claustrophobic 2015 neo-Nazi thriller Green Room may be surprised by the first trailer for director Jeremy Saulnier’s follow-up Hold the Dark, which sets off into the Alaskan wilderness.

Hold the Dark features Westworld’s Jeffrey Wright as Russell Core, a retired naturalist and wolf expert who ventures into remote northern Alaska to help Medora Sloane (Riley Keough) find the wolf that killed her son. The situation escalates when Medora’s husband Vernon (Alexander Skarsgard) returns from serving in the war.

The new trailer is our first look at Hold the Dark, which was announced as a Netflix project last January. The film will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 12 before its Netflix release on Sept. 28.

Hold the Dark is part of Netflix’s big push at the festival, with buzzy releases such as Alfonso Cuaron’s Roma and the Coen brothers’ anthology series-turned-film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs also making appearances. We’ll have to keep an eye on whether Netflix’s big bet on recognizable directors will pay off.
