Tessa Thompson Is the Face of American Desperation in Little Woods Trailer

The newest trailer for the forthcoming thriller Little Woods depicts an America all too many face every day, in which to simply exist is expensive, dangerous and fraught with seemingly impossible choices.

Tessa Thompson stars as Ollie, who’s on her last few days of probation after illegally running prescription pills across the Canadian border. Her estranged sister Deb (Lily James of Baby Driver fame) enters her life again following their mother’s death. Deb finds herself living on the edge as she confronts both an unplanned pregnancy and a deadbeat ex.

Combined with the imminent foreclosure of their mother’s house, Ollie is forced into the desperate position of either violating her probation for one last job or leaving her life in the former fracking boomtown of Little Woods, N.D., where life is as bleak as the stark wintry landscape. The opioid crisis, limited reproductive rights, unpaid mortgages—all these hallmarks of modern American life make their way into the trailer.

Thompson and James are joined by Luke Kirby (Lenny in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), James Badge Dale (Hold the Dark) and Lance Reddick (recently seen as Christian DeVille on Corporate). Little Woods is the feature debut for writer and director Nia DaCosta, who will next direct Jordan Peele’s Candyman sequel.

Little Woods premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 21, 2018, and will be released in theaters by NEON on April 19, 2019.
